Well, I did a different type of paddling for me this weekend, a little sea-kayaking. I had a great time. My dad just built a Pygmy Arctic Turn and he went to the EWU outdoor rec place and rented me a Prijon Barracuda. Once on the lake I started to realize what people enjoyed about flatwater paddling. The shore line was quite impressive. There were usually about 3 to 4 feet of shallow rock and then it just dropped off. We primarily stayed about 20' off the shore so we could check out the wildlife, rock formations, duck blinds, etc.
We saw three blue herrings and many different birds of prey. Lot's of fish were jumping around.
After about five or six miles we crossed the lake and then headed back down the eastern shore. I was having a heck of a time keeping the boat going in the direction I wanted it to. My dad explained to me the leaning and turning of the kayak (again, the first time I tried his boat out on the Spokane he explained it to me and I caught on very quickly), but that thing had a mind of its own. It was about 50/50 how it would turn. About the last 20 minutes of the trip I put the rudder down so I didn't have to worry about it. That was probably the most enjoyable twenty minutes of the trip :D!
